File Shredder 2.0 Portable

With File Shredder you can remove files from your hard drive without fear they could be recovered. There are quite a few software tools today for retrieval of deleted files under Windows OS. Those tools, often referred to as “file recovery” software, are taking advantage of shortcoming of WIndows “delete” command that we all use regularly to delete files. Actually, the “delete” operation in Windows only removes bits of information from files so they appear deleted in OS. It is easy to retrieve those files using aforementioned specialized file recovery software.

In order to remove, or shred files permanently from your system you have to use a program that is capable of rewriting the files with random series of binary data multiple times. This process is often called shredding. That way, the actual content of the file has been overwritten and the possibilities to recover such a shredded file are mostly theoretical.

File Shredder has been developed as fast, safe and reliable tool to shred company files. The author of this program released it free under GNU licence and you are welcome to download File Shredder and use it without any restrictions. File Shredder is simple but powerful program that surpasses manu commercial file shredders out there. The Author believes that such a utility should be available to anyone for free and that permanent and safe removal of confidential documents is a matter of basic right to privacy.

For more comprehensive protection you can download ArchiCrypt Shredder. It is very powerful commercial application suite which doesn’t stop on shredding utility and is priced incredibly low for what it offers. If you don’t need all the options of ArchiCrypt shredder and prefer separate utilities for important tasks some of best commercial utilities are produced by Blancco. They have really good Data Cleaner for shredding the whole volumes (Hard Disks) and that is something my File Shredder utility is not supposed to do – yet. Roxio is the consumer brand of Sonic Solutions, which is a long-time leader in professional DVD authoring (and now Blu-ray), and is growing in digital media for home consumer electronics (www.sonic.com). The data copy and burn part of the suite goes back to Easy CD Creator for disk burning, which expanded to Easy Media Creator with DVD, and now is plain Creator. Sonic also added tools like MyDVD and BackOnTrack for backup. Plus the suite include digital media editing tools for music, photos, and movies, built around a core of rather comprehensive applications including VideoWave and PhotoSuite (originally from MGI).

The new Learning Center is the bottom tab on the Creator 2010 screen. It includes a selection of video tutorials that you can watch to see how specific tasks are performed (e.g., Burn data across multiple discs, Capture Internet audio, Restore old photos). (You may recogize the voice of Jan Ozer.) Many also have accompanying step-by-step PDF instructions that you also can print out and reference. The Tutorials are hosted online, with new material added regularly.

Creator 2010 has a cleaner interface, with some tools like MyDVD and VideoWave re-designed to focus more on the most important features. The video and audio tools have added capture from streaming Internet audio and video, including automatically segmenting out individual songs and adding song ID data, with conversion to popular formats and devices.

But the biggest focus of this release is on high-definition video and more efficient video processing. The Pro version (or separate plug-ins) support Blu-ray Disc playback and editing directly on BD-RE discs. And the AVCHD Archive feature trnasfers video from a HD camcorder to DVD or Blu-ray, for playback on Blu-ray players or the Sony PS3 in full HD quality.

Improvements for video processing including smart encoding to just re-compress portions of a project that have been modified, and acceleration on NVidia CUDA and ATI Stream graphics cards (Roxio reports 5X faster compression). You can preview the look of your selected video compression by runnin git on a short section of the clip so you can check the visual quality. There’s also the helpful option to pause intensive video compression temporarily so you can use your machine for something else, or schedule it to run while you sleep.
